The U.S. State Department has approved the possible sale of $1.1 billion worth of construction, cybersecurity and force protection to Qatar to support the country’s F-15QA multi-role fighters.

The potential deal includes facilities for alert, cyber, force protection, maintenance, training and squadron operations functions. It also contains hangars, hardened shelters, parking/loading ramps, taxiways, weapon storage areas, and cybersecurity and force protection services.

The package would ensure that Qatar’s air force “can utilize the F-15QA aircraft to its full potential,” the State Department said.

A prime contractor will be picked through a competition.

The department notified Congress of the potential sale Nov. 1. Lawmakers have 30 days to weigh in.
