The State Department has approved a potential $140 million sale to Canada of AIM-120D Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAMs) for deployment on Royal Canadian Air Force F/A-18 fighter aircraft.

The Foreign Military Sale, which still requires congressional approval, includes up to 32 missiles, up to 18 captive carry air training missiles, up to four airborne instrumentation units, up to seven AMRAAM instrumented test vehicles, up to seven missile guidance kits, and up to four spare missile control sections.

Raytheon [RTN] is the prime contractor for AMRAAM.

The Canadian government has notified the U.S. that it will negotiate offset agreements as part of the sale.

The Pentagon notified Congress of the possible sale on Oct. 30. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency said the deal will further the security of a NATO ally.
