Sean Stackley was sworn in yesterday as Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Research, Development and Acquisition ASN (RDA).

Stackley, a retired Navy officer, has been Republican staff lead for the Senate Armed Services Committee Seapower subcommittee for more than two years.

The Senate approved his nomination to the post last week (Defense Daily, July 25).

He relieves John Thackrah, who served as acting ASN (RDA) since Nov. 16, 2007, when then ASN RDA Delores Etter resigned.

Thackrah will return to his duties as Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Navy (Management and Budget).

Stackley graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1979 and received a master’s degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1986, according to a Navy spokesman.
