Saab AB received an order for Carl-Gustaf ammunition from the U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM), the company said Monday.

The Carl-Gustaf is a man-portable shoulder-launched 84-mm recoilless rifle, also known as the Multi-Role Anti-Armor Anti-personnel Weapons System (MAAWS). The ammunition order comes under the terms of Saab’s five-year $187 million framework contract with USSOCOM from August 2014 (Defense Daily, Aug. 8, 2014).

“This order demonstrates the continued confidence of our customer in the capabilities and versatility of the Carl-Gustaf. The system gives soldiers a battle-winning edge through its high accuracy, supreme effectiveness and great versatility,” Torbjörn Saxmo, head of the Saab ground combat business unit, said in a statement.

The Carl-Gustaf M4 is the most recent version of the multi-role weapon system. It offers a higher degree of accuracy, lighter construction, and compatibility with future innovations, the company said.

Ammunition deliveries are set to take place during 2015 and 2016.
