Sweden’s Saab said it will supply the Sea Giraffe Agile Multi-Beam (ABM) naval radar system in a Foreign Military Sale (FMS) agreement between the U.S. and the Philippines.

The AN/SPS-77 Sea Giraffe is planned to be installed in two Philippine Navy frigates: BRP Gregorio del Pilar (FF-15) and BRP Ramon Alcaraz (FF-16). The ships are both former Hamilton-class U.S. Coast Guard cutters.

The sale also includes the company’s 9LV combat management system for radar control and display for situational awareness.

The AMB model of Sea Giraffe is a medium-range multi-role air and surface 3D surveillance radar that is specialized to detect small air and surface targets in various environments. It currently serves on U.S. Navy Independence-variant Littoral Combat Ships (LCS).

“With Sea Giraffe AMB currently part of three separate U.S. Navy programs, this contract further strengthens Saab’s position as a trusted supplier for the U.S. Navy,” Anders Carp, head of Saab’s surveillance business area, said in a statement.
