Raytheon [RTN] said it filed a lawsuit Monday against the Air Force to prevent the service from reconsidering bids from its Three-Dimensional Long Range Radar (3DELRR) competition.

Company spokesman Michael Nachshen said in an email the company filed an action in the U.S. Court of Federal Claims seeking to preserve the company’s 3DELRR contract award. No new Raytheon filings were found as of press time Tuesday in the federal government’s court record repository known as Public Access to Court Electronic Records (PACER).

“We believe the Air Force awarded the procurement to Raytheon in a properly-conducted bid process and we remain confident in our 3DELRR solution,” Nachshen said.

The development was first reported by Defense News.

The Government Accountability Office (GAO) last week set aside protests from 3DELRR competitors Lockheed Martin [LMT] and Northrop Grumman [NOC] after the Air Force pledged to review its decision. The initial contract award to Raytheon was worth $19.5 million for the engineering manufacturing and development (EMD) phase, and with additional options, the contract could have reached $72 million. Analysts speculated the total value of the program could eventually exceed $1 billion (Defense Daily, Jan. 21).
