Raytheon [RTN] yesterday said its radio control interconnection technology has received SAFETY Act approval by the Department of Homeland Security, which means the company gets legal liability protections as a supplier of the systems.

The company’s audio control unit technology provides public safety agencies a way to interconnect existing radio equipment with other radio systems operating on different frequencies.

Raytheon’s products receiving the Qualified Anti-Terrorsim Technology designation are the ACU-1000, ACU-M, ACU-T and TRP-1000.

“After an extensive and thorough review period, the award also validates the performance of our communications solutions and recognizes our long-standing commitment to provide these solutions to support national security efforts,” William Iannacci, director of Raytheon’s Network Centric Systems’ Civil Communications Solutions, said in a statement.
