The State Department approved a possible $20 million Foreign Military Sales (FMS) request to Qatar for Javelin guided missiles and associated equipment, training, and support.
The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) notified Congress of the potential sale on May 24.

The possible sale includes 50 Javelin guided missiles (Category I), and 10 Command Launch Units (CLU) with Integrated Day/Thermal Sight (Category III Sensitive) with container. Other equipment comprises 10 Javelin missile simulation rounds, one Enhanced Basic Skills Trainer (EPBST), and 12 Battery, Non-Rechargeable, six Battery, Storage, Rechargeable, Battery Discharger, Battery Charger for #9, and 10 Battery Coolant Units. The major defense equipment (MDE) portion of the sale is $15 million.
The FMS also includes U.S. government technical Information and assistance and life cycle contractor support (LCCS) for 24 months or until funds are exhausted. This provides for personnel, services, materials, facilities, equipment, maintenance, supply support, integrated support plan, product assurance, and configuration management.
The prime contractor for the sale is Lockheed Martin [LMT].
Qatar would use the equipment’s enhanced capability to strengthen its homeland defense, DSCA said.
The agency said Qatar is a regional partner and the sale would help it meet current and future threats and provide greater security for its critical oil and natural gas infrastructure.
