The Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) awarded United Technologies Corp.’s [UTX] Pratt & Whitney a $2 billion modification for engine equipment to support F-35 low-rate initiation production Lot 11 aircraft, the Defense Department said on May 31.
This modification adds funding for production non-recurring/tooling, administrative labor, partner unique items and Lot 11 production propulsion systems. It includes 10 F135-PW-100 propulsion systems for the Navy; 51 F135-PW-100 propulsion systems for the Air Force; and 24 F135-PW-600 propulsion systems for the Marine Corps.
The contract also procures 49 F135-PW-100 and one F135-PW-600 propulsion systems for non-DoD participants and foreign military sales (FMS) customers.
A majority of the work will occur in East Hartford Conn., (67 percent) and Indianapolis (26.5 percent) and is expected to be finished by May 2021.
This award combines purchases for the Marine Corps at $663 million (33 percent), Air Force at $592 million (29 percent), Navy at $136 million) (seven percent), non-DoD participants at $335.6 million (17 percent), and FMS customers at $289 million (14 percent).
The full funding was obligated at award time via fiscal year 2016 and 2017 Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps aircraft procurement as well as FMS and non-DoD participant accounts.
