The operators of Lech Walesa International Airport’s terminal facilities have acquired additional MagShoe metal detectors from IDO Security, Inc. [IDOI], expanding on a prior installation of the high-speed, shoes-on portable footwear metal detection system. The value of the award wasn’t disclosed. IDO Security now has about 14 of its shoe scanners at Lech Walesa International. Other international customers include airlines, airports, government agencies in Israel and Australia, and a private security company in Germany. IDO Security’s management acquired IDO Security, Ltd., which was based in Israel, earlier this year. MagShoe continues to be produced in Israel although the company has shifted production to two new contract manufacturers to meet a potential spike in demand, Michael Goldberg, IDO Security’s president, tells TR2. In the coming months IDO Security plans to begin ramping up its marketing of MagShoe in the U.S. to a variety of potential government, including the Transportation Security Administration, and corporate customers, he says. In September the company contracted with former Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge as a consultant to help it gain entry into the U.S. market, particularly with government customers. MagShoe can quickly–in less than 2 seconds–scan for metal in a person’s shoes while he or she is still wearing their footwear. The unit can scan up to the top of a person’s ankles.
