ManTech International [MANT] on Wednesday said that it has appointed Kevin Phillips, the company’s president and chief operating officer (COO), to be its next CEO starting on Jan. 1, 2018.

Phillips will take over for George Pedersen, the company’s current chairman and CEO, who will continue as executive chairman with responsibilities for strategy and direction, and oversight of mergers and acquisitions efforts.

Phillips joined ManTech in 2002 through the acquisition of CTX Corp. He served as the company’s chief financial officer from 2005 until 2016 when he was appointed president and CEO. Phillips will lead the company as president and CEO.

Pedersen in a statement said Phillips “has always used his excellent leadership skills, sharp business acumen and steadfast commitment to mission to strengthen the company’s capabilities and achieve operational excellence …The success ManTech has enjoyed over this last year under Kevin’s stewardship is what I envisioned when we promoted him to the role of president in 2016.”

Phillips was also appointed to ManTech’s board.
