Oshkosh Defense [OSK] on Tuesday evening received an $804 million order to deliver Joint Light Tactical Vehicles (JLTV) for the Army, Marine Corps, Air Force, Navy, as well as the Montenegro military.

The full-rate production order covers 2,271 JLTVs and 16,714 vehicle kits, with deliveries to begin in 2021.

“As the threats on today’s modern battlefield continue to evolve, our warfighters need a highly capable light tactical vehicle that is uniquely suited for mission adaptability,” George Mansfield, Oshkosh’s vice president and general manager of joint programs, said in a statement. “The JLTV can accommodate over 100 different mission package configurations without sacrificing mobility or transportability.”

Oshkosh did not specify the vehicle delivery breakdown for each of the services, but did note that Montenegro will receive 30 JLTVs as part of a foreign military sale.

Mansfield told Defense Daily that Oshkosh has noticed increased international interest in the JLTV after the Army approved the program for full-rate production over the summer (Defense Daily, June 21)

“[We] continue to see international interest grow with regards to the JLTV. As the threats on today’s modern battlefield continue to evolve, there is a growing need for a well-protected, highly mobile lightweight military vehicle such as the JLTV that serves the Warfighter an extraordinary range of mission profiles,” Mansfield said.

The Marine Corps is also planning to increase its overall JLTV buy from 9,901 vehicles to 15,000 vehicles (Defense Daily, Aug. 19).
