The Utah State University Research Foundation’s Space Dynamics Laboratory recently said Paul Stewart will join the leadership team of Space Dynamics Laboratory as director of technology in October.

Stewart is currently commander of the Naval Research Laboratory where he is responsible for $1.3 billion in annual research.

“Paul will be a strong addition to our team and will be instrumental to the future growth and success of SDL,” said Niel Holt, director of SDL. “He brings with him nearly three decades of experience as a leader in military space research and development that will strengthen SDL’s role as a provider of capable technology solutions with superior service to our customers.”

Stewart will be located at SDL’s Washington, D.C., operations, where he will provide technical leadership to various programs and be responsible for proposal concept definition, systems specification and engineering, proposal and design reviews, and customer relationships. He will also provide guidance and management for research and development investments, direction of strategic pursuits and serve as a senior technical consultant to SDL Leadership.

A unit of the USU Research Foundation, SDL is one of 14 University Affiliated Research Centers in the nation. Charged with applying basic research to the technology challenges presented in the military and science arenas, SDL has developed revolutionary solutions that are changing the way the world collects and uses data. SDL’s core competencies are electro-optical sensor systems, calibration, thermal management, reconnaissance systems, and small satellite technologies.
