The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency is merging its chief information officer (CIO) and information technology services functions effective Feb. 15, the agency said in a statement Monday.
“NGA is at a pivotal crossroads where policy and business processes must move as quickly as IT implementation,” Robert Cardillo, Director of the NGA, said in a statement.
“Executing new missions and leveraging new sources, along with our traditional missions and sources, require us to unify our IT management with IT delivery and sustainment. This merger will enable additional agility to accelerate IT delivery of capabilities while fully leveraging IC ITE and incorporating new data sources.”
IC ITE is the Intelligence Community Information Technology Enterprise. It seeks to provide a joint information technology environment based on cloud computing to improve how agencies across the intelligence community share mission-critical data.
The combined CIO and IT functions will be led by Douglas McGovern, the current director of InnoVision. Innovision is the NGA’s research and development arm. McGovern is also the agency’s former deputy chief operating officer.
The current director of information technology services, David Bottom, will direct NGA’s leader development program.
The current chief information officer, David White, will serve as the first NGA fellow to the newly established Intelligence and National Security Foundation. This foundation is an offshoot of the Intelligence and National Security Alliance, a nonprofit public-private organization.
