The desirable characteristics of the detection technologies and systems include a detection range of at least 100 meters, carried or installed on a vehicle, capable of being used in harsh environments, near-term potential to have automated detection and recognition with minimal development, the ability to be integrated with other sensors, and have output data format be easily modified to be fused with information from other detection systems.
