The Navy has issued a $604 million contract to Huntington Ingalls Shipbuilding’s [HII] Ingalls unit for construction of an Arleigh Burke-class (DDG-51) destroyer.

The contract is for hull DDG-121 and is the third ship of five the Pascagoula, Miss., yard is slated to build under a multi-year procurement.

Ingalls has delivered 28 Arleigh Burke destroyers to the Navy and is under contract for the futures USS John Finn (DDG-113), USS Ralph Johnson (DDG-114), USS Paul Ignatius (DDG-117) and USS Delbert D. Black (DDG 119).

“The DDG-51 program has been the backbone of Ingalls Shipbuilding for the past three decades,” said George Nungesser, the company’s program manager for the ship class.
