The Navy on Thursday awarded Pratt & Whitney a $152 million contract modification for a variety of F-35 products, according to a Defense Department statement.

The contract modification will procure initial spare modules, engine system trainers, support equipment and depot activation services and supplies. Pratt & Whitney spokesman Bradley Akubuiro said Thursday the contract award includes one lift fan. These are for the Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, international partners and foreign military sales (FMS) customers.

Akubuiro said an engine system trainer is an actual piece of hardware that is used to train engine maintainers. This contract, he said, also includes a lift fan maintenance trainer for the United Kingdom. He said Rolls-Royce is producing the lift fan maintenance trainer, support equipment and initial spare parts. Rolls-Royce developed the vertical landing capability for the Marine Corps’ short takeoff and vertical landing (STOVL) F-35B variant.

The F-35 is developed by Lockheed Martin [LMT], BAE Systems and Northrop Grumman [NOC]. Pratt & Whitney is a division of United Technologies Corp. [UTX]
