The Defense Department awarded Lockheed Martin [LMT] $60 million in two contracts for Aegis ballistic missile defense contract modifications.
A Sept. 1 modification valued at $8 million provides for scope supporting Aegis ballistic missile defense (BMD), including additional Aegis BMD modeling and simulation and Aegis BMD 5.1.1 capability insertions. This mod increases the total contract ceiling from $3.29 billion to $3.301 billion and is managed by the Missile Defense Agency.
The contract notice said the contract ceiling is raising for contract line item numbers (CLIN) CLIN 0160, Aegis BMD 5.1.1 capability insertion as well as CLIN 0045, Aegis BMD modeling and simulation.
The work will occur in Moorestown, N.J., and is expected to be finished by Oct. 31, 2020
Separately, Naval Sea Systems Command awarded Lockheed Martin a $52 million modifications on Sept. 3 to exercise options for ship integration and test of the Aegis Weapon System (AWS) for AWS Baselines through Advanced Capability Build (ACB) 16.
The announcement said this option covers Aegis shipboard integration engineering, Aegis test team support, Aegis modernization team engineering support, Ballistic missile defense test team support and AWS element assessments.
“This contract action provides AWS ship integration and test efforts for nine new construction guided missile destroyer (DDG-51) class ships and the major modernization of seven DDG-51 class ships. It will additionally cover the integrated combat system modifications and upgrades for all current ships with all AWS Baselines up to and including ACB 16,” the award said.
The second award’s work will largely be split among Moorestown, Norfolk, Va. (eight percent); San Diego (eight percent); and Washington, D.C. (seven percent). It is expected to be finished by September 2021.
