Lockheed Martin [LMT] recently announced new organizational and personnel moves to sharpen its focus in the area of cyber security, which is growing in importance to government and private sectors and in terms of business opportunities.
The company has established the Center for Cyber Security Innovation, which it says “represents an evolution for the company and its cyber security capabilities as it organizes to centrally manage its enterprise practice for technology innovation, best practices, and talent management.”
Lockheed Martin has also hired former Air Force Lt. Gen. Charles Croom as its vice president of Cyber Security Solutions in charge of leading overall cyber security strategy. Croom previously served as director of the Pentagon’s Defense Information Systems Agency and as commander of the Joint Task Force for Global Network Operations.
The new cyber security center will be led by Lee Holcomb, who joined Lockheed Martin two years ago after serving as chief technology officer at the Department of Homeland Security. Holcomb will manage technology solution and talent development and help shape technology initiatives.
Lockheed Martin said it plans to partner with universities and industry to foster innovation, leverage technologies, and create a pipeline for talent.
