L3 said that Doss recently was authorized to train international military pilots. Doss, which also provides aviation maintenance and logistics at U.S. government bases, operates a turnkey training facility in Pueblo, Colo., that offers coursework and flight training for fixed-wing and unmanned aircraft pilots and weapons officers.

“Doss Aviation is a strategic addition to the L3 training portfolio as the sole provider of U.S. Air Force Initial Flight Training,” Todd Gautier, L3’s president of the Electronic Systems segment, said in a statement. “As the demand for outsourced flight training and services increases, Doss uniquely expands our military instruction footprint, positioning L3 for growth across both military and commercial training.”

L3 said that the deal closed on Sept. 12 and that L3 Doss, as the unit is now named, will be grouped under its Total Training Solutions sector within the company’s Electronic Systems business segment.

The Doss deal builds on the company’s existing flight training and simulation businesses that include Commercial Training Solutions and L3 Link Simulation & Training.
