The Australian Defense Force (ADF) awarded L-3 Communications [LLL] a $208 million five-year contract to deliver soldier modernization technology  to the Australian Army under the LAND 53 Phase 1BR program, the company said Monday.

The contract was awarded via a competitive bid process that included extensive ADF field testing, L-3 said.

Under this contract, L-3 will provide the Australian Army with targeting and detection capabilities designed to perform at night and under all weather conditions. This includes binocular night vision goggle, a compact multifunction aiming laser with integrated white light capability, and the next generation of lightweight miniature laser rangefinders.

Work will be performed by two of the company’s subsidiaries: L-3 Warrior Systems and the Australia-based L-3 Oceania. Both subsidiaries are organized under L-3’s electronic systems business segment.

The company is also set to schedule a new sustainment center in Australia to provide in-country logistics support and regional customer support for this project.

“This new business award demonstrates the growing demand for our highly advanced, capable products and solutions in a key international market. L-3’s ability to deliver a collaborative, one-company solution to meet a wide range of requirements is increasingly important to our customers, both in Australia and across the globe,” Michael Strianese, L-3’s chairman and chief executive officer (CEO), said in a statement.

Contract deliveries are set to occur from May 2017 to May 2021.
