This summer, Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) signed a potential $44 million contract with Swedish procurement authorities to procure three LEGUAN bridge layers on Leopard 2 chassis.

The contract includes peripheral services and training equipment as well as an option for further vehicles.

KMW also develops, produces and supports the Leopard 2 main battle tank.

Sweden is now among the 15 nations that use the LEGUAN system, and is one of the three countries which have introduced the system with the Leopard 2 chassis.

In this variant, the LEGUAN can lay a 26-meter bridge or two 14-meter bridges independent of each other whose 70-ton load capacity can be used by the heaviest equipment.

Its versatility in combination with the Leopard 2 chassis’ unique properties of protection and mobility makes the LEGUAN also suitable for civilian use–such as after natural catastrophes—to recreate the infrastructure.

With additional pontoons, the LEGUAN bridge also can be used as a ferry or floating bridge.
