Israeli defense company Rafael has signed a new partnership agreement on May 16 with the Romania’s Romaero to bolster recently approved defense programs for the Romanian Army.

Rafael will assist the state-owned Romaero on Romanian defense acquisition programs, including work on air defense systems and production of Spike missiles.

“Romania’s increase in defense spending brings unprecedented opportunities for major investments in the defense industry. We are very excited to be teaming with Rafael, one of the world’s most ground-breaking defense industries,” Romaero CEO Remus Vulpescu said in a statement. “Together we will be able to extend our reach and sales internationally, for state-of-the-art systems produced in Romania and suitable for any platform, to fulfill Romania’s needs and requirements. We will work to provide high quality services and competitive pricing, as well as business development through marketing performance.”

The two companies will work jointly on air defense systems, including Romania’s SHORAD and VSHORAD programs. The agreement covers work on the Iron Dome systems, the Spyder air defense system and the C-Dome Naval Air Defense Systems.

Rafael will also assist Romaero with building remote weapon stations, such as the Samson .30mm caliber for Romania’s Rheinmetall vehicles.

The agreement also includes a deal for electro-optical, precise tactical Spike missiles.
