The fiscal year 2017 omnibus appropriations bill, which includes $593 billion for defense, received House approval May 3.

The legislation now heads to the Senate for its consideration later this week. House and Senate negotiators unveiled the compromise measure May 1 (Defense Daily, May 1, 2017).

The defense portion contains $73.7 billion for research and development and $123.3 billion for equipment procurement, including 74 F-35s for the Air Force, Marines and Navy and 10 ships for the Navy. Cyberspace activities will receive $6.7 billion, $992 million over the FY 2016 enacted level.
