HII [HII] on Monday said it has created the new corporate position of chief technology officer (CTO) that will be filled by Todd Barkey, who has been CTO of the company’s Mission Technologies segment since 2021.

HII said it created the new role to oversee its technology strategy, strengthen its existing products and services and develop new capabilities.

“Todd has demonstrated true leadership in developing synergies between HII’s technologies and platforms, enhancing speed-to-mission for our customers and supporting our growth,” Chris Kastner, HII’s president and CEO, said in a statement. “This new role expands HII’s opportunities for impact on behalf of our customers, employees and shareholders alike.”

The appointment is effective immediately. Borkey will report to Kastner.

“HII is a leader at transitioning new technology into the Defense Department mission,” Borkey said in a statement. “In addition to being the nation’s trusted producer of complex warships, we manage over $1 billion of research, development, test and evaluation work annually. We are ready to support the coming decade with market leading positions in live, virtual, constructive simulation and training, artificial intelligence and machine learning, big data, C5ISR, cyber and electronic warfare, autonomy, and nuclear services.”

Borkey joined HII as part of the company’s acquisition of the former Alion Science and Technology, where he was CTO. He also served as CTO of Thales Defense and Security, and DRS Defense Solutions.
