The U.S. Navy awarded General Dynamics [GD] two awards totaling $101 million for both submarine acoustic detection capabilities and the Common Aviation Command and Control System (CAC2S), the Department of Defense announced Thursday.

The Naval Sea Systems Command specifically awarded GD’s Electric Boat Corp. $64.2 million for a large vertical array (LVA) fixture, LVA first article, and provisioned item orders.

The LVA helps deliver acoustic detection capabilities to submarines. This specific technology allows the production and outboard installation of very large arrays while minimizing impact to vessel architecture, hydrodynamics, and submarine signatures, the Defense Department said in a statement.

This contract includes options that, if exercised, would raise the total value to $882 million. Work will mostly occur in Groton Conn., and is expected to be finished by Aug. 2019.

The contract was competitively procured via the FedBizOpps website on the basis of full and open competition, with two offers received, the Navy said.

Separately, the Marine Corps Systems Command, awarded GD a $37 million contract for the full-rate production of the CAC2S, which is managed by the Program Executive Office Land Systems in Quantico, Va.

Under the CAC2S contract, the Marine Corps will buy 41 full deployment units and quarterly software maintenance releases. It is structured to procure the full systems in four lots from fiscal year 2017 through 2020 and includes servers, network switches, network routers, radios and ancillary equipment, and assembly of the components into a deployable system, the announcement said.

The contract includes three one-year options that if exercised would raise the total value to nearly $105 million. The work will largely occur in Scottsdale, Ariz., with an expected completion date by Jan. 26, 2022.

The contract was competitively procured on the FedBizOpps website, with five offers received.
