Fulcrum IT this week acquired the software engineering firm PTR Group, providing it with new capabilities and customers in the Defense Department.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Fulcrum IT is a portfolio company of the private equity firm Boyne Capital, which partnered in 2010 with the private equity firm Grindstone Partners to acquire Fulcrum.

Boyne said the acquisition of Maryland-based PTR expands its customer base to include the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, the Naval Research Laboratory, and NASA. PTR provides software engineering, cyber security, ream-time embedded systems, Internet of Things engineering, software defined networking, and machine-to-machine engineering solutions.

“This acquisition expands Fulcrum’s cyber capabilities and solidifies Fulcrum’s entry into the R&D markets complementing a mindset of innovative concepts and solutions to support cutting edge mission requirements,” Jeff Handy, CEO of Fulcrum, said in a statement.

Virginia-based Fulcrum’s customers include U.S. Special Operations Command, military intelligence organizations, and the Army’s Night Vision Labs.

The acquisition is the sixth investment in Fulcrum since Boyne and Grindstone partnered with Fulcrum’s management.
