Mike Williamson received an appointment to the United States Naval Academy, Annapolis, Maryland, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering in 1979. Mike is also a graduate of the Naval Postgraduate School, with a Master of Science Degree in Computer Science. His acquisition training includes the Program Managers Course and Executive Program Managers Course at the Defense Systems Management College in Fort Belvoir, Virginia.
Mike’s began flight training at the Naval Aviation Schools Command in December 1979 and was designated a Naval Flight Officer in November 1980. Electing to return to the VP community, he was assigned to the “World Famous Woodpeckers” of Patrol Squadron Forty-Nine (VP-49) where he qualified as P-3C Orion Patrol Plane Tactical Coordinator (TACCO), Mission Commander, Instructor TACCO, and Detachment Officer in Charge.
In June 1983 Mike was assigned to the staff of the United States Naval Academy as Navigation and Leadership Instructor. His collateral duties included Director of the Naval Academy Planetarium. After one year as an instructor, he moved to the Commandant of Midshipmen’s staff as the Thirteenth Company Officer.
Mike was designated an Aeronautical Engineering Duty Officer (AEDO) in 1988. His first assignment as an AEDO was to the Naval Air Warfare Center, Aircraft Division, Warminster, Pennsylvania, where he served as a project leader and deputy Division Head for the Sonobuoys and Sensors division. Subsequent AEDO assignments include project lead and Base Realignment And Closure Coordinator at Naval Air Warfare Center, Aircraft Division, Trenton; Deputy Department Head for Propulsion and Power Engineering (AIR-4.4), Naval Air Systems Command; lead for the Navy’s first Advanced Development Project Office for Unmanned Combat Air Vehicles (UCAV); Deputy Program Manager for Carrier Intelligence Center integration and IPT Lead for all Unmanned Air Vehicle Ground Systems including the ACAT II Joint Tactical Control System for the Program Executive Officer, Strike Weapons and Unmanned Systems. His final assignment as a Naval Officer was as the Program Manager for Air Combat Electronics (PMA209) at Patuxent River, Maryland. He is currently assigned as the Mission Systems Deputy Program Manager for Naval aviation common avionics systems.
