Captain Robinson is a Surface Warfare Officer from Omaha, Nebraska. In 1976 he enlisted and began boot camp at Great Lakes, Illinois in June 1977.  Following Personnelman “A” school and submarine training, he served in USS Casimir Pulaski (SSBN 633) and qualified in submarines during his first patrol. Selected for a NROTC scholarship, he graduated in 1982 from the University of Wisconsin – Madison with a Bachelor of Science in Economics (Math Emphasis). In his senior year, Captain Robinson was a Secretary of the Navy Distinguished Midshipman Graduate and received the Economics Department Senior Thesis and Honors Graduate awards.

Sea tours include division officer assignments in the battleship USS New Jersey (BB 62), department head tours as Chief Engineer in USS John A. Moore (FFG 19) and as an inspector with CINCLANTFLT Propulsion Examining Board, and Executive Officer of USS John S. McCain (DDG 56). Captain Robinson commanded USS Spruance (DD 963) from January 2001 to September 2002. During his command Spruance completed deployment workups with the John F. Kennedy Battle Group, a Mediterranean deployment, and received the CINCLANTFLT Golden Anchor Award for both 2001 and 2002. He commanded USS ANZIO (CG 68) from July 2007 until March 2009, taking the ship and crew through a maintenance period and a complete deployment workup cycle with the BATAAN ARG/MEU.

A proven sub-specialist in financial management, Captain Robinson has served the majority of his shore tours in the Pentagon. Shore assignments include the Navy Comptroller’s Office (N82), Headquarters United States Marine Corps (Programs & Resources), Joint Chiefs of Staff (J-8), and the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense (Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics).  From October 2004 to November 2006 he served as the Financial Officer for N86, Surface Warfare Division, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations. From April to October 2009 he served as the Executive Assistant to the Director of Programming, OPNAV N80. He reported to 10th Fleet as the first Chief of Staff in October 2009.

In 1986 Captain Robinson was selected as a COMNAVSURFPAC “Shiphandler of the Year.” He was the Atlantic Fleet Surface Warfare Officer nominee for the 2002 Vice Admiral James Bond Stockdale Leadership Award. Captain Robinson is a distinguished graduate in finance of the MBA program at the University of California, Irvine. He completed the Air War College JPME Phase I curriculum in 1998 and the Joint Forces Staff College JPME Phase II curriculum in 2007.

Personal awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit (with one Gold Star), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (with two Gold Stars), Navy Commendation Medal (with two Gold Stars), and various unit awards.
