A federally-mandated August 2010 deadline is fast approaching requiring all cargo carried on passenger planes be screened for explosive threats. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has emphasized the need for the screening to be done—whether by physical or technological means—throughout the supply chain, in particular by freight forwarders.
Yet many forwarders and even manufacturers have been slow to initiate the certification process with TSA, creating the possibility of a logjam next year as these companies rush to meet the deadline.
Meantime, some companies that now have Certified Cargo Screening Facilities (CCSF) are pressing TSA to approve new technologies that will allow them to more efficiently and effectively screen the types of cargos they typically handle.
This interactive webinar will cover the following:
- How is TSA preparing to meet the expected surge in demand to join the Certified Cargo Screening Program (CCSP)?
- What is the status of efforts to certify additional screening technologies?
- What lessons have been learned from some of the participating companies in terms of technology and processes?
- What elements of the supply chain need to be more involved as CCSFs?
- How will TSA sustain the CCSP program after August 2010?
