Calabrese is responsible for product and technology development for Naval Combat and Missile Defense Systems. He is responsible for the Littoral Combat Ship Freedom class variant mission system including the development of COMBATSS-21 and his team continues to evolve the Aegis Weapon System elements. Technical emphasis is on development of advanced systems that are built to support and operate across ship classes. This includes a focus on development of the common source library.
Calabrese is also responsible for advanced product development and supports numerous Office of Naval Research, DARPA and The Joint Integrated Air and Missile Defense Organization programs. Through the Technology & Collaboration Centers in San Diego and Washington D.C., he and his team have fostered relationships with several small businesses to introduce innovative new capabilities to the combat systems under development.
Earlier in his career, he was the DDG-1000 C2 National team integrated program team lead and was responsible for other DDG-1000 product development. He led the development of programs such as the Tactical Graphics Capability, ADS MK 6, and the F-100 Weapon System Architecture. He has supported a diverse set of programs that have a requirement for C4ISR/Combat System architectures including BSY-2, Norway Frigate, Japanese programs, German F122/F123/F124, Deepwater and Consolidated Afloat Networks and Enterprise Services.
