Byron is the Robotics Technologist at the Naval Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Technology Division in Indian Head, Maryland, where he has worked in the Research & Development Department since 1986.  As such, he is the focal point for all Joint EOD activities performing research and development in support of DOD requirements for the use of unmanned ground vehicles (UGV) for EOD missions.  He has 22 years experience with unmanned vehicles beginning with underwater remotely operated vehicles in the late 1980’s.  He was the project manager for the Remote Ordnance Neutralization System (RONS), which entered production in 1999, and was the project manager for the Man Transportable Robotic System (MTRS), which entered production in 2005.  To date, over 350 RONS and 2,000 MTRS have been fielded to EOD units worldwide.  He is currently leading Joint EOD’s Advanced EOD Robotic System (AEODRS) effort, with initial fielding scheduled for 2013.  Byron also serves on the DoD Joint Ground Robotics Enterprise Technology Advisory Board.

Byron has lived in Charles County, Maryland since 1968.  He has an AA in Engineering from the College of Southern Maryland, a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Maryland, and a Master of Project Management from Western Carolina University.  He is also a certified Project Management Professional.  Byron has been married to Bernice Brezina since 1987.  They reside in Swan Point, Maryland with their children Sandra, Cari, and Jacob.
