So far this year the Transportation Security Administration has begun an aggressive effort to deploy nearly 500 Advanced Imaging Technology systems in some of the nation’s airports by year-end as a result of the failed 2009 Christmas Day bombing attempt aboard a passenger plane. The agency plans to maintain that aggressive pace in 2011 by deploying another 500 machines.

Yet there are still privacy concerns with the whole body imaging technology and some airports are concerned they’ll be stuck with the bill to make terminal modifications or give up real estate to allow the deployments. That means enhanced privacy protection algorithms and reducing the size of machines are likely to become important requirements.

Despite the promise of Advanced Technology X-Ray systems to be upgraded to permit automated detection of liquids in carry-on bags at security checkpoints, so far TSA hasn’t approved any of the liquid detection algorithms. What kind of progress is the agency making here?

TSA is also managing a competition to begin replacing the current generation of Explosive Detection Systems with technology that can screen checked baggage at significantly higher speeds. Is this effort on track or are delays ahead?
  • What are the emerging requirements for AIT systems such as  automated target recognition algorithms, reduced machine size and faster throughput?
  • Does TSA have timelines for introducing automated detection capabilities on its AT X-Ray systems?
  • Might the agency be open to eventually allowing third party software vendors to provide detection algorithms on its screening equipment?
  • What are the latest plans for acquiring the next-generation EDS systems?

This interactive webinar brings together a panel of experts who will address the issues and answer your questions in a give-and-take format that promises to be informative for every participant.

Or if you prefer, a phone for the audio and an Internet connection to let you watch the slides and other information on the Web will suffice. No other downloads or special hardware - a dial-up connection will work fine.

  • One (1) set of materials (you may make copies for all of the persons you invited to listen to the program);
  • One (1) toll-free connection to the seminar (if you select the audio connection), and

  • Use speakers on your computer or speakerphone on your telephone and invite your entire staff to attend for FREE!

What equipment do I need?

For the audio connection:

  • A computer with Flash Player or Windows Media Player installed. When you log into the Virtual Seminar, your computer will be taken through a brief configuration check and will let you know if you're missing any software.
  • If you do not have Flash Player or Windows, a touch-tone telephone will work also. It works best to use a speakerphone so that others can listen too.

For the Internet connection:

  • PC: 166Mhz Pentium-based PC or better
  • Operating system: Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000, XP
  • Browser: For optimal viewing experience, we recommend using Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher. However, any version of IE 4.0 or higher will work. For Netscape, only versions 4.x are supported at this time.
  • Internet connection: 28.8 or faster connection
  • Display set at 1024 x 768 or 800 x 600
