Ms. Kelly Merkel
Renewable Energy Analyst
U.S. Marine Corps Expeditionary Energy Office

Kelly Merkel earned her B.S. in Sociology from the University of Wisconsin—Madison, and a master’s from the University of Minnesota—Twin Cities, in U.S. Foreign Policy and International Affairs.

Kelly was Chief of Staff for a Wisconsin Representative prior to joining the Office of the Secretary of Defense (Acquisition, Technology and Logistics) in 2007.  In this position, she served as Special Assistant for Resource Planning and Legislative Affairs supporting DoD’s policy initiatives for Operational Energy in the office of the Deputy Director, DT&E. 

New to the United States Marine Corps Expeditionary Energy Office, Kelly holds the “Renewable Energy Analyst” position as the lead liaison between academia, industry and government in order to bring energy solutions to the warfighter.

Kelly Merkel is married to Captain Carlos M. Goetz, USMC.
