Michael E. Barrett is vice president for Maritime Mission Systems at Northrop Grumman Corporation. In this role, he is responsible for leading Northrop Grumman’s organization focused on mission systems engineering, development and support for U.S. and international maritime customers.
Maritime Mission Systems is Northrop Grumman’s leader in open architecture mission system solutions for integrated combat management systems, battle management command and control systems and maritime systems engineering and integration services. The organization’s mission is to provide innovative industry leading products and services to enable open, enterprise solutions for maritime customers.
Previously, Mr. Barrett served as director for the Mission Systems Modernization business unit within the former Northrop Grumman Mission Systems sector. In this role, Mr. Barrett oversaw operations for the business unit, which provided integrated air and missile defense solutions, tactical command and control solutions, mission planning solutions, information assurance and cyber security solutions. Mr. Barrett was responsible for major software development and system integration programs for the Department of Defense in Dahlgren, Va.; Newport, RI; Newport News, Va.; Panama City, Fl.; Pascagoula, Ms.; San Diego.; and, Washington, D.C.
Prior to his work at Northrop Grumman, Mr. Barrett gained significant software and systems development experience with the U.S. Air Force and multiple Department of Defense contractors. Mr. Barrett started his career developing intelligence systems for the Air Force, migrating to weapons systems development as a lead engineer for the Ground Launch Cruise Missile Program. Mr. Barrett began supporting the U.S. Navy on the Tomahawk and Harpoon Cruise Missile programs in the early 1980s. He went on to cofound Logix Corporation, a systems engineering firm supporting the U.S. Navy. Mr. Barrett has provided systems engineering and engineering management expertise in roles ranging from Chief Engineer to Vice President on many U.S. Navy programs to include combat management systems, tactical C2 systems, operational C2 systems, C4ISR systems, battle management systems, weapons systems and sensor systems.
