Leo Motors Inc. (LEOM) announced it has delivered an advanced working prototype electric multipurpose strategic vehicle/tank to Hyundai Rotem, one of the largest companies in the Korean defense industry.

The multipurpose strategic electric vehicle was developed by Leo Motors and Hyundai Rotem using key technology and systems which could be required for next generation battle field operations, potentially opening a new era in the defense industry with multi-use advanced tactical remote deployable robotic assets, the company said in a Dec. 3 statement.

The manned or unmanned electric vehicle could potentially be used in military land-based stealth vehicles and the company intends to make it available in various configurations depending upon its deployment.

The vehicle’s 6×6 in-wheel motor system control with steering column and skid drive control provides it the ability to traverse harsh terrain and it can turn 360 degrees in one spot, the Leo Motors statement said.

The new vehicle is equipped with an advanced GPS and laser scan technology for intelligent 3-D geometrical navigation.

Additional features include specialized control technology to accomplish fast target tracking with silence and speed, the statement said.

Leo Motors was chosen to build the vehicle due to their talent and expertise in the electric motor industry as well as design and construction capabilities.

The vehicle was exhibited last month in the Seoul Aerospace and Defense Exhibition, one of the largest defense exhibitions in the Asia-Pacific region of the world.

Hyundai Rotem intends to play a critical role in strengthening the Korean defense posture by developing K1/K1A1 tank and its family vehicles.

Leo Motors Inc. has created a line of wholly electric vehicles and components for consumers.
