Egypt is seeking 139 RIM-116B Block 1A Rolling Airframe Missiles (RAM) with Mk 44 Guided Missile Round Packs (GMRP) as well as associated equipment and services, worth upward of $125 million, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) reported.

Along with its planned RAM purchase, Egypt has requested a possible sale of containers, support equipment, spare and repair parts, publications and technical data, maintenance, personnel training and training equipment, U.S. Government, contractor engineering and logistics technical support services, and other related elements of logistics support, DSCA said.

Raytheon [RTN] is the prime contractor.

This proposed sale of 139 Mk 116B Block 1A RAM and Mk 44 GMRP provides the weapons employed by the MK-31 RAM Guided Missile Weapons System (GMWS) included on the Egyptian Fast Missile Craft (FMC). The RAM- GMWS and missile when coupled with the Mk-15B Phalanx Close In Weapon System provides the FMC and the Egyptian Navy with an effective defense against helicopters, anti-ship missiles, aircraft, and small surface craft. This capability is critical for the FMC to effectively provide security in the approaches to the Suez Canal and the Egyptian littoral, according to DSCA.

Egypt is also looking to spend upward of $83 million on the possible sale of 164 Stinger Block 1 missiles configured for vehicle launch only, as well as 12 fly-to-buy missiles, 25 Avengers, trainers, spares, engineering and technical assistance support, sentinel radars, Single Channel Ground and Airborne Radio System (SINCGAR) radios, target/range/test support, containers, support equipment, spare and repair parts, publications and technical data, training, U.S. Government Quality Assurance Teams’ services and other related elements of logistics support, DSCA said.

Egypt will use the Stinger missiles to upgrade its air defense capability and will have no difficulty absorbing them into its armed forces, DSCA added.

Raytheon is the prime contractor on this sale.
