The Port of Houston Authority used Datastrip‘s DSV2+Turbo handheld card reader to conduct mobile enrollments of truckers for their Transportation Worker Identification Credentials (TWIC) to help the port meet an April 15 deadline for compliance with the TWIC program, Datastrip says. PHA used the readers as part of an outreach program by visiting trucking companies to remotely enroll drivers. The PHA has enrolled nearly 7,000 TWIC cardholders using the mobile readers. The mobile readers are equipped with Codebench‘s PIVCheck Plus software, which checks cardholder data against the Transportation Security Administration’s hot list twice daily and notifies PHA if a cardholder appears on the list. The software has also been installed in four of the PHA’s desktop computers so that TWIC cards can be registered on-site. The Coast Guard will use the card readers and PIVCheck software to confirm the identity of TWIC cardholders during regular inspections and spot checks.
