Datastrip, Inc., has introduced an upgraded version of its handheld biometric and card reader, the DSV2+TURBO, which is HSPD-12 approved. The new terminal is upgraded from the company’s DSVII-SC readers, which aren’t HSPD-12 certified. The new version is lighter weight and features a capacitive fingerprint sensor supplied by UPEK, Inc., rather than an optical one, and can process more types of cards. The DSV2+TURBO has been used by U.S. soldiers in Iraq for base access control, can process an array of cards, including Personal Identity Verification, Transportation Worker Identification Credential, and the Defense Department’s Common Access Card. The device can read contact and contactless cards, has a 16-hour battery life, and provides flexible communications options, including cellular, Wifi and Bluetooth.
