The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) plans to host an industry day on an exploratory development program aimed at developing a highly accurate 50-caliber bullet at long distances against moving targets.

DARPA says the EXACTO program has two components. The first is to develop a guidance system that provides information to direct the projectile to the target and second to develop an actively controlled projectile that uses this information for real-time directional flight control, according to a Nov. 26 notice in the FedBizOpps.

“The program’s mission is to identify system architectures that are capable of potentially meeting this goal, to develop the underlying technologies required to accomplish both of these tasks and then to integrate these technologies into a system capable of performing the overall function,” DARPA says.

The upcoming industry day will be held on Dec. 11 in Northern Virginia. Sol. No. SN08-06.
