The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) awarded Vencore Labs Inc., doing business as Applied Communication Sciences, a $10.3 million cost-plus-fixed-fee contract for a research project under the Dispersed Computing (DCOMP) program, the Defense Department said April 17.

The DCOMP program was solicited under a DARPA broad agency announcement (BAA). The program was originally solicited in June 2016 on FedBizOpps.

The program aims to produce software instantiations of algorithms and protocol stacks that leverage pervasive, physically dispersed computing platforms to boost application and network performance by orders of magnitude, the department said.

This contract came after a competitive acquisition under an open BAA with 42 offers received.

Fiscal 2016 research, development, test, and evaluation (RDT&E) funds of $187,500 and fiscal 2017 RDT&E funds of $975,000 are being obligated at award time.  The work will be performed in Basking Ridge, N.J., with an expected finish date of April 2021.
