Morocco Acquires Smiths Detection High-Speed X-Ray/CT EDS

Smiths Detection says that the Morocco Civil Aviation Authority (ONDA) has awarded the company a contract to deliver and install its HI-SCAN 10080 XCT high-speed hold baggage explosives detection system (EDS) at the new passenger terminal at Marrakech’s Menara Airport. The XCT system combines dual-energy, dual-view X-Ray technology and computed tomography (CT) and can screen up to 1,800 bags per hour. Smiths Detection says the order is the first of its kind from a North African country. The company has similar contracts with Santiago International Airport in Chile and Bremen Airport in Germany. “This order illustrates both our growing relationship with ONDA and the recognition by major airports that this revolutionary technology offers an ideal, cost-efficient combination of enhanced baggage security and faster throughput,” says Andrew Davis, head of Market for Europe South & West and Smiths Detection.
