AS&E Announces Major Order for ZBVs, Other Systems

American Science & Engineering [ASEI] has received its largest single international order for 33 Z Backscatter Van (ZBV) mobile screening systems, 33, topping an order for 28 systems earlier this year from a Middle East channel partner. The company didn’t disclose the customer for the new order. Separately, AS&E says it has received an order for six Z Portal multi-view X-Ray screening systems for checkpoint security from a new customer in the Middle East. The systems will be used to scan passenger vehicles, vans, trucks, and cargo for concealed threats and contraband. The company says it has sold more than 600 of its detection systems to customers in the Middle East. Finally, AS&E has received an order from the Taiwan Aviation Police for a Z Portal drive-through cargo screening system. The new system will be co-located with the Police’s existing AS&E Sentry Portal to enable a more comprehensive screening system to better detect organic threats and other contraband in pallets and containers routed through Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport. “As concealment techniques grow more sophisticated, detection capabilities must become more comprehensive,” says Chuck Dougherty, AS&E’s president and CEO. “We’re leveraging our domain expertise to advise customers on the deployment of complementary technologies to provide unparalleled screening capabilities for threats and contraband. It’s this ability to deliver more comprehensive security solutions that drives expansion opportunities in Asia and other targeted markets.” The Taiwan Aviation Police also have an AS&E Gemini 100100 air cargo X-Ray inspection system.
