Customs and Border Protection says its use of facial comparison technology for an evaluation in the pedestrian land environment at the San Luis, Ariz., port of entry resulted in the identification of two impostors earlier this month. In one instance, a 26-year old man presented a border crossing card to an agency officer during primary inspection and the biometric technology reported a mismatch to the travel document. In another instance, a 39-year old man presented a green card to an officer during primary inspection and the facial comparison technology reported a mismatch to the document. The agency says that “facial recognition technology virtually eliminates the ability for anyone to use someone else’s genuine document.”
