L-3 Communications [LLL] has received a $1 million order from the Transportation Security Administration to provide parts, services and support in support of the company’s eXaminer 6600 medium-speed Explosive Detection Systems that are used to screen checked baggage at Boston Logan International Airport. The task order covers the period from Oct. 29, 2013 until Sept. 30, 2014.

The Transportation Security Administration has canceled plans to solicit industry to provide airport security screening services at San Francisco International Airport until further notice. Covenant Aviation Security currently provides privatized screening services at SFO under a contract awarded in March 2011 under the Screening Partnership Program. The $405 million award to Covenant is for up to four-years and nine-months if all options are awarded and would end by July 31, 2015.

Implant Sciences Corp. [IMSC] as sold its QS-B220 desktop explosives trace detectors to an air craft services providers that provides screening services under the Transportation Security Administration’s Certified Cargo Screening Program. Implant says the sale is to an industry leader in the air cargo services market.
