Saab AB signed a contract to deliver $11.6 million worth of RBS 70 very short range air defense systems (VSHORAD) to the Brazilian Army, the company said March 6.

The RBS 70 deliveries are set to take place during 2017 and 2018. The system is currently in service with the Brazilian Army and previously served in a protection role for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Saab said.

The contract includes RBS 70 man-portable launchers, night vision equipment, training simulators, multispectral camouflage for RBS 70, and associated equipment for operators and maintainers.

“The system played a very important role in the protection of the 2016 Olympic Games where it not only protected the games, but also strategic infrastructure. We know that the capabilities and reliability of the system are highly appreciated by the customer”, Stefan Öberg, head of the missile systems business unit in Saab’s dynamics business area, said in a statement.

Saab is based in Sweden.
