Britain’s BAE SYSTEMS recently said it is acquiring Pitch Technologies AB, a Swedish-based firm that specializes in training and simulation products and solutions, for about $9.8 million.

BAE expects the deal to close in December. Pitch’s largest customers are the Swedish Ministry of Defence, NASA, the European Aeronautic Defence and Space Co., and France’s Thales. Other customers include Boeing [BA] and Japan’s Mitsubishi.

Pitch will enable BAE to enhance its ability to provide interoperable training and simulation solutions more cost effectively, Claes Erik Frolund, president of BAE’s C-ITS business in Sweden, told sister publication Defense Daily. Pitch provides technology that various simulators that are being used for separate tasks, such as fighter aircraft, air traffic control systems and ground systems, to be used together in the same training exercise more cost effectively than BAE can currently do, Frolund said.

Pitch will become part of BAE SYSTEMS AB, the Swedish subsidiary of BAE SYSTEMS United States-based Land and Armaments Group. BAE SYSTEMS C-ITS provides advanced training simulators, war gaming, crew trainers and combat training centers.

Pitch said that joining BAE will open new markets for it and put it in a better position to further develop its products and technologies.

“On the services side there are also considerable synergies between our infrastructure and architecture know-how and BAE SYSTEMS’ capabilities to realize innovative training and simulation solutions,” Staffan Lof, president and CEO of Pitch, said in a statement.
