American Science & Engineering [ASEI] received a $20 million follow-on order as the second phase of a previously awarded contract for multiple OmniView Gantry shape energy systems for used by an undisclosed Middle East customs agency for seaport security. The first phase of the award was for $25 million (TR2, March 8, 2006). “We have a long-standing relationship with this customer to provide a full range of products offerings to secure their strategic ports and borders,” says Anthony Fabiano, AS&E’s president and CEO. The OmniView system operates on rails past stationary vehicles and cargo and combines high-energy transmission inspection plus multiple Z Backscatter X-Ray views. Separately, AS&E received $4.2 million in orders for multiple Z Backscatter Vans from international clients. Fabiano says the orders expand the company’s customer base and notes that AS&E’s expanded sales force is generating increased awareness of its product base and “increasing the pipeline of new opportunities.” The company also said it has received a multi-million dollar order from its distributor in Italy for one OmniView system and one ZBV for use at a major high volume port in that country. The sale is the first for any of AS&E’s products in Italy. The value of the contract wasn’t disclosed nor was the customer. AS&E says at the Italian port the OmniView will be used to inspect incoming containers and the ZBV will be used to perform rapid inspections of suspect vehicles.
