The Army is seeking industry input on research and capabilities that can help improve its ability to integrate artificial intelligence tools with its information warfare (IW) operations.

A new Request for Information notice posted on May 15 is intended to assist the Army Communications-Electronics Research, Development and Engineering Center (CERDEC) with finding machine learning and big data analytics capabilities that can be applied to future electronic warfare, ISR and offensive cyber developments.I2wd_logo

Interested industry participants are asked to detail their mature AI systems that may assist CERDEC’s Information Warfare Directorate (I2WD) in increasing performance of current Army IW programs.

“I2WD is interested in gaining greater insight into the state of the art in AI techniques, algorithms and capabilities. This will help to determine the areas of AI research that have Technology Readiness Levels suitable for investment and eventual integration into the next generation of Army SIGINT/Cyber/EW/ISR systems,” officials wrote in the RFI notice posted on FedBizOpps.

The I2WD is seeking benefits from AI and machine learning that could improve the survivability of the Army’s jamming capabilities and enhance offensive EW operations. Specifically, the RFI requests insight on big data tools assisting electronic attack for D5M missions.

Officials are also exploring machine learning capabilities for expanding offensive cyber, signals intelligence and RADAR capabilities.

Information gathered from the RFI will also go toward exploring “digital teammate” technology, which would assist intelligence analysts in supporting the full range of Army systems within a new standards-based application programming interface.

“This RFI is also interested in innovative strategies for fielding a secure minimum viable product that can be incrementally improved based on user feedback,” officials wrote in the RFI notice.

The deadline to respond to the Army CERDEC’s RFI is June 6.
