The Army is accepting proposals to find a new machine-gun optic needed to hit targets faster and allow gunners to be more accurate on their first round.

Project Manager Soldier Weapons released a request for proposals notice on Oct. 19 for the Mounted Machine Gun Optic (MMO), which will be integrated on M240B, M2/M2A1, and Mk19 machine guns.

“The MMO procurement is…seeking a system solution that will enable warfighters to scan with both eyes open, then rapidly slew the weapon on target, and engage with a higher confidence of getting the first burst on target,” Army officials wrote in the RFP notice.

Army officials are planning to award up to three contracts, with each company delivering an initial 35 MMO units for live fire testing.

A pre-solicitation notice stated the Army could eventually look to procure 11,540 MMO units based on testing results.

The RFP cites magnification, weapon shock ruggedization, zero retention, parallax and high temperature performance as the main criteria requirements.

Officials plan to award the MMO contract early next year.

Proposals submission are due by mid-November, and the Army said interested contractors would also need to meet security clearance requirements to access classified documents to bid.
